Geheimprojekte des Heeres 1939- 1945
34,90 €The Third Reich produced a multitude of technical masterpieces, which were often developed and tested in secret in gigantic underground bunker systems. After the end of the war, the victorious powers were overwhelmed by the achievements of the German designers. Many developments, f. e. in the case of heavy tanks, were taken over immediately. This volume gives an insight into the armaments complex and the research institutes of the Third Reich.
With first-class visual material, the author illuminates the secret developments of the army of heavy and superheavy tanks, railway guns as well as long-range weapons and missiles.

Gepanzerte Rad- und Spezialfahrzeuge der NVA
24,90 €Even though the large battle tanks usually receive the greatest attention from the public, a tank force consists of significantly more types of tanks, whose areas of responsibility differ greatly from each other, which is why they are also very specialized in design and areas of application. This was also the case in the National People’s Army of the GDR.
In this book, Jörg Siegert describes in words and pictures the armored wheeled tanks and special vehicles of the military transport system, the intelligence and pioneer troops, the motor vehicle service and the military construction industry, as they were in service with the NVA until 1989.

Gloster Gladiator in RAF and Overseas Service Wingleader Photo Archive Number 12
27,50 €The RAFs last biplane fighter certainly saw a lot of action, mainly in the Middle East, so the author thought he could make quite an interesting book, especially when combined with the colourful pre-war schemes and more exotic foreign air force liveries. And so it proved, that the Gladiator appeared in many different guises.

Graf Zeppelin’s Eagles. An Operational History of the Messerschmitt Bf 109T
99,95 €The history of the Bf 109 T forms a small but important part of the most famous Messerschmitt design. Seventy were built in 1941, initially as the planned fighter complement of the Graf Zeppelin. As the aircraft carrier was cancelled, the Bf 109 Ts were handed over to the Luftwaffe which put them into service in Norway. However, renewed plans to complete the Graf Zeppelin saw the Bf 109 Ts withdrawn from Norway and converted back to the carrier version. The final cancellation of the Graf Zeppelin at the beginning of 1943 saw the aircraft issued to Jagdstaffel Helgoland and given a new lease of life. At the end of the year the unit moved back to southern Norway. In mid 1944 the Bf 109 T was finally withdrawn from front-line service and the remaining aircraft transferred to training units.
This book extensively details the history and use of the Bf 109 T, and includes accounts not only by the Luftwaffe pilots who flew them but also their opponents from the RAF and the USAAF. Details are included of all known losses.

Hamburg Süd. 150 Jahre auf den Weltmeeren. Die Geschichte einer großen Reederei
39,90 €Just in time for the anniversary, journalist and author Matthias Gretzschel vividly traces the 150-year history of the traditional shipping company: from the beginnings and the difficult phases during the two world wars to the time of reconstruction as part of the Oetker Group to the present, which the company has been shaping since 2017 under the umbrella of the world’s largest container ship shipping company A. P. Moller-Maersk.
Numerous people whose work was and is associated with Hamburg Süd convey with personal texts an impression of the fascination associated with this unique shipping company, which is also perceived all over the world as an ambassador of the city it leads in its name.

Harvest of the Grim Reapers – The Illustrated History of the 3rd and 27th Bomb Groups During WWII, Vol. 1: Prewar to Dec’42
98,00 €With roots dating back to the air war over France in World War I, the 3rd Bomb Group would pioneer the low-level air attack strategy used in the Pacific Theater in World War II. In 1939, the unit was split up: half the personnel would make up the new 27th Bomb Group that would help defend the Philippines, while the rest would remain in the U.S. for additional training. The two units would reunite in Australia in March 1942, after two dozen 27th pilots escaped the maelstrom of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. Bolstered by three score new pilots, and later, RAAF co-pilots and gunners, their first major combat operation was the Royce Raid, a surprise attack against the Japanese in the heart of the Philippine Islands.
Forced to adapt to an unpredictable supply line, the 3rd Bomb Group flew A-24 dive-bombers, A-20 strafer-bombers they modified themselves and B-25 medium bombers acquired from the Dutch Air Force. Major Paul I. Pappy Gunn, a future legend of the 3rd Bomb Group, was instrumental in the development of the A-20 strafer model that changed the way air units attacked the Japanese. Throughout 1942, they bombed Japanese bases at Lae, Salamaua and Buna, often without available fighter cover. Pursued by the Tainan Kokutai, a Japanese fighter unit then at its peak prowess, airmen who survived after their planes were shot down over enemy territory had to cross the untamed jungles of New Guinea while dodging Japanese troops to reach Allied territory. Their stories are told to the full extent of what information is available.

This book follows the Spitfire book’s format taking a roughly chronological look at the first few years of the Hurricane in RAF service. Because of the sheer amount of material it contains 88 pages.

Hawker Typhoon 1940 to Spring 1943 Wingleader Photo Archive Number 16
27,95 €Chris Thomas, the son of a Typhoon pilot, is probably the worlds leading expert on the Hawker Typhoon and has an incredible reference library on this classic fighter. The publisher thought about having one volume on the Typhoon and one on the Tempest, but with Chriss archive and knowledge, they think that they may stretch to four or even five books on the two aircraft.
This first one covers the early days of Typhoon development and operations and includes the usual mix of high-res wartime photos, informative captions and plenty of I never knew that moments, especially in the area of recognition markings which these early Typhoons saw their fair share of.
As with all the books in this series, the publisher has enhanced the photos to pull out the shadow detail and have added arrows and letters to identify points of interest.
This book contains approx 120 original wartime/pre-war photos and 6 in-depth colour profiles. -
Hawker Typhoon Part 2: Summer 1943 to early 1944 Wingleader Photo Archive Number 21
27,95 €This second volume covers the period when the Typhoon went from being a defensive fighter to being an offensive fighter-bomber. Along the way, trials were also conducted into its night fighting capability and its resilience to operating in the desert. Both trials are also covered in this book.
The last quarter of 1943 also saw the introduction of the fourth distinct canopy style on the Typhoon. There was no change in mark number to signify this nor apparently, within the RAF, was there any official nomenclature to signify the variants. However, it was usually referred to as the sliding hood and from notes in pilots logs it would seem that the term slider was used to differentiate the new clear-vision hood from the awkwardly-named car-door type. So slider appears throughout this publication.

Heinkel 219 Uhu. Alle tatsächlich gebauten Typen-Reihen – Historie – Technische Daten – Fakten
38,00 €In this book you will find facts to help you better understand the subject of He 219. There are also hints here on how to recognize types of this production among each other. On 105 photos, with 139 drawings, 26 documents and on 52 pages with tables, only the actually built type series are addressed and proven by the author.
Tables also show a lot of information about these. With the accompanying drawings, the image of the He 219 rounds off better in order to see and understand it.
The book builds on good books/publications by other good authors, thus leading to a well-rounded whole in its summary of the data.
Lists in the area of constructions numbers and the He 219 identifiers in the squadrons – here the Nachtjagdgeschwader (NJG) 1 – are also intended to encourage them to be continued in order to give the He 219 a better overview in the area of construction numbers.

Heinkel He 111 Units in the Battle of Britain and the Blitz Wingleader Photo Archive Number 13

Italian Battleships Conti di Cavour and Duilio Classes 1911-1956
68,00 €With the publication of their previous book on the battleships of the Littorio class, the authors set new standards for the detailed coverage and sophisticated analysis of Italian warship design. Inspired by its success, both critically and commercially, the authors were inspired to follow up with a similar study of the earlier Italian battleships that were built in the First World War but survived to fight in the Second. Given the level of new research required, this has taken a decade to achieve but the result is a similarly comprehensive coverage.
Originally comprising five ships in two related classes, they entered service at the beginning of the Great War. As designed, they were powerful examples of the second generation of dreadnoughts, with a combination of twin and triple turrets producing a unique main armament of thirteen 12-inch guns. One ship, Leonardo da Vinci, was sunk by an internal explosion at Taranto in 1916, and although the hull was raised post-war, the plan to rebuild the ship was abandoned as it was not deemed cost-effective.
However, the remaining four ships were to undergo one of the most radical reconstructions of any battleship class during the 1930s, emerging with an entirely new profile, more powerful machinery and all the characteristics of a modern fast battleship. In this form they became an important element in the Italian fleet that opposed the British after 1940.
This book covers all the technical details of the ships, both as built and as rebuilt, but also provides an extended history of their active service, including battle plans and track charts.
Thoroughly illustrated with photographs, ship and armament plans, detail drawings and colour camouflage schemes, the book is a fitting companion to The Littorio Class. -
Italian Heavy Cruisers. From Trento to Bolzano
56,00 €When the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922 effectively banned the building of battleships, competition between the major navies concentrated on the next most powerful category, heavy cruisers limited to 10,000 tons displacement and 8-inch guns. Italy followed this trend, the first design for what became Trento and Trieste being ordered in 1924. These were the fastest of the first generation Treaty cruisers but were very lightly armoured, and the succeeding Zara class of four ships were slower but better protected. However, before the final ship of this class (Pola) had been completed, there was a return to the earlier fast, lightly protected concept with the Bolzano, although this ship also incorporated aspects of the Zara design.
The political background, design history and technical features of these classes are covered in great depth in this volume. They were important ships, subject to incremental improvement so no two were identical, and modelmakers in particular will appreciate the space devoted to the variations in appearance, using both description and illustration.
As major units of the Italian battlefleet, they were more active than most during the war and their careers are fully detailed, including analyses of damage suffered. Tragically, they were all sunk and the full circumstances of each loss is explored.
As befits a technical history, the book is thoroughly illustrated with ship and armament plans, detail drawings and colour camouflage schemes, as well as an outstanding collection of photographs. Translated from the same series that produced the highly successful Italian Battleships, this volume is a fitting companion. -
